Dorothy Ball, Karalee Eltzroth and Mary Lou FewellIn 1999, three dedicated nurses Dorothy Ball, Karalee Eltzroth, and Mary Lou Fewell decided to form Michiana Healthcare Training Inc., to fulfill a passion for training area residents as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s). Over a fifteen year period they have trained and provided employment for over 3,000 individuals. The quality of their instruction, as evidenced by their 99% + pass rate, and numerous awards, is recognized throughout the state of Indiana as one of the premier CNA training schools. As 2013 came to a close, they reflected about the past and the future of MHT. The pursuit of new experiences and interests was a driving factor in what became a decision to close the Michiana Healthcare Training’s doors.

Who is Legacy CNA Training?

Legacy CNA TrainingSenior1Care, a family owned Home Care agency with locations in both South Bend and Indianapolis, felt a great deal of gratitude for what Dorothy, Karalee and Mary Lou have accomplished. They realized the closing of Michiana Healthcare Training created an unfilled need within the community to train highly qualified CNA’s. As a result, they saw an opportunity to continue the training program in the women’s honor and operate the school with the same values they have demonstrated at Senior1Care.

The new school is called Legacy CNA Training and its transformation will be led by Mary Lou’s daughter, Sue McPherren. Sue was the Program Director at Michiana Healthcare Training for the past 11 years. In her role with Legacy, Sue will continue as the Program Director and also manage the day to day operations of the business.

Sue is excited about the opportunity to continue the legacy Mary Lou, Dorothy and Karalee created the past 15 years at Michiana Healthcare Training. Legacy is confident the school will continue a tradition of excellence and provide students with the best CNA class in our area!!!
